I really need to go back and do some sort of Red Cross first aid course, since I remember approximately the square root of jack shit from my short, miserable stint as a boy scout.

Ye’, get your first aid certificate done. It’ll always be needed.
Also get a couple of rotating LED SOS lights. They really come into there own when drawing attention to you presence in the road.
It’s not so much rotating as the LEDs light up in a rotary fashion.
They can be had from eBay for a few dollars. They have a magnetic base, as well as a fold out hook underneath and light in various patterns.
and keep some hi-vis vests in the vehicle.
